19 year old Julian Conley has been charged with murder in the Atlanta shooting death of 8 year old Secoriea Turner.
Conley’s attorney says he was peacefully protesting and saw the shooting but did not participate in the shooting, although he was armed.
Secoriea was fatally shot on the Fourth of July while riding in an SUV with her mother and another adult near the Wendy’s restaurant where Rayshard Brooks, a 27-year-old Black man, was killed by a white police officer on June 12.
They were driving in an area where barricades had been put up after the shooting of Brooks. Apparently, they tried to turn around at one of the barricades when their SUV was fired upon.
Family members and members of the community attended the funeral for the 8 year old girl, on Wednesday, just as news was breaking of the murder charge.
